Responsive Counseling Cognitive Behavior Therapy - Neurofeedback - Biofeedback

Depending on your personal goals and preferences, we will use a combination of the following therapies.

We will use Cognitive Behavior Therapy to change problem thoughts, feelings, and actions. You will learn about connections among situations, core beliefs, intermediate beliefs, automatic thoughts, feelings, actions, and body sensations. During our sessions, you will learn different ways to respond to life situations. To improve your mental health and performance, you will learn Biofeedback Therapy to control your skin temperature, skin moisture, heart beat, and breathing rate. You will also learn calming, mindfulness, and meditation skills to improve your life.

We’ll change or improve your life by using Neurofeedback Therapy (NT) to teach your brain to maintain a healthy state. Through NT, your mind learns how to increase calmness and alertness. When your brain is calm and alert, you become better at focusing on regulating your thoughts, feelings, and actions.

NT gives feedback directly to your brain. This feedback is used by your brain to strengthen and tune itself. Your brain will use its new strengths and tuning during and after training sessions. You may experience immediate positive changes and long lasting results by completing 20 to 40 sessions. NT is painless and non-invasive and there are over 410 research papers on its success of helping people and the research continues to grow.

Sensors are placed on the head and ears to pick up EEG brain waves. I will watch your waves on a laptop and you will watch a large monitor. When your waves are in the right state you will hear a beep and see a game, movie, or pictures move on your screen. When your waves are not in the right state, you will not hear beeps and the monitor will stop. During our 30 minute training, I will change laptop settings to help you get more beeps and more video action, this teaches your brain how to get and keep a healthy state. We influence specific bands of brainwaves to positively influence your mental and physical state, below is a list of common waves.

EEG Brain Wave Bands

Delta (.5-3 Hz) - Deep relaxation, dreamless sleep

Theta (4-7 Hz) - Increased creativity, intuition, dreamlike states

Low-Alpha (8-9 Hz) - Relaxed, almost meditative but still aware

High-Alpha (10-11 Hz) - Relaxed, centered, tranquil

Low-Beta (12-14 Hz) - Relaxed, yet still mentally sharp

Mid-Beta (15-17 Hz) - Increased problem solving ability, focus, and alertness

High-Beta (18-29 Hz) - Associated with mental activities such as math and planning

Gamma (30-44 Hz) - Associated with high-level information processing, multi-tasking, and high energy

 

I’m licensed in the state of Illinois as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (#180.006465) and a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (#93723). I've received certified training in Neurofeedback. I have a doctorate and a masters degree.
